Salvation Army Bell Ringing 2022

Every year we volunteer to help Salvation Army with their annual Red Kettle Campaign here in Highland Village.
The campaign was started in 1891, when Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee was distraught because so many poor individuals in San Francisco were going hungry. During the holiday season, he resolved to provide a free Christmas dinner for the destitute and poverty-stricken. This eveolved into an event that helps fund the Salvation Army around the world!  Here are the complete historical details:  https://www.registertoring.com/redkettlehistory.aspx

What a wonderful season!

Unity In Communities

Highland Village Rotary joined other area Rotaries in co-sponsoring the Unity in Communities luncheon. Other sponsors included the Chamber of commerce for Lewisville, Flower Mound, the HVBA, and Independent Financial. This is a great annual event that celebrated its 15th year. This function brings together elected officials from Denton County, the Cities of Highland Village, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Rotarians, volunteers, and other leaders in our community to celebrate area non-profit organizations. This event highlights the top 3 organizations and then crowns a winner.  This year’s top three were Single Parent Advocate, Children’s Advocacy Center, and Cloud 9 Charities. And the winner is.....

This month the challenge is on! We are so close to ending polio forever! There are less than a few hundred active cases in the world, but that number could easily climb back up if we do not continue to provide the polio vaccine. This month we are asking all members to donate $25.00.  That is $725 total for our 29 members. Contact Treasurer Kate Voss kate@vossaccounting.com for all the payment options.

June 27th was a great time! We had some fantastic food thank you to Shoal Creek Tavern, and we had a lot of fun, Passing the Gavel. The annual tradition of thanking our past board members and welcoming our new board members. Glenn Kimball our outgoing President could wait to hand off the gavel and RUN back to his sailboat. Julie Hutchens took the gavel willingly (got to love the newly initiated) ;) But truth be told Julie is an old hat, she is one of Highland Village's founding members! Good luck to the new board and tons of gratitude to the out going board.

An officer is killed in the line of duty every 65 hours. Throughout history, there have been more line of duty deaths in the State of Texas than any other state or territory. The Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Fallen Officer Fund provides monetary assistance to Texas families of fallen heroes within 24 hours following an oficer’s line of duty death.

The TXFallenPD Tribute Event is a community event that takes place at The Shops of Highland Village.  Activities include a 5K run and civilian bike race in the morning and a Police Officer bike race and a Police Officer Obstacle Course Competition in the afternoon. There is live music, demonstrations, raffle prizes, a silent auction, kid zone, food, and drinks throughout the day.

We are proud to announce the Gavin A. Fleten Memorial Servant’s Heart Award to honor our co-founder, friend and THE model of what it means to have a servant’s heart.  From his years of delivering Meals on Wheels to serving as the de facto hunter/gatherer for anyone in need of his unique ability to bring people together for a common cause, Gavin was a force of nature unlike any other.  Gavin was not driven toward service by any particular cause.  He derived his passion from his desire to connect with people and to foster a network of connections that went deeper than most of us could ever strive to achieve on our own.

Proposing New Members

The lifeblood of the each Rotary club is based on the growth of new membership. New members bring new ideas and renewed energy into a club. The process for proposing new members is somewhat tedious, but is so for a reason. The following steps must be followed when proposing a new member to a Rotary Club.
